Globe University Partners with Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce for 28th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS (June 9, 2014) – The Globe University-Woodbury campus will be the title sponsor of the Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce 28th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minn.

The tournament is dedicated to awarding South Washington County School District high school students scholarships toward their future education. Over the years, the golf tournament has donated more than $150,000 in scholarships to local high school students. This will be Globe University-Woodbury’s fourth year sponsoring the tournament, but the first year as the title sponsor.

“As the chair of the Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Education Partnership Committee, I’m honored to be the title sponsor for this year’s tournament,” said Lisa Palermo, campus director of the Globe University-Woodbury campus. “It’s our goal to not only support our local community, but to encourage and support higher education to high school students.”

The Woodbury Chamber organized the tournament a quarter of a century go in memory of Woodbury’s first city administrator Jim Lacina, who passed away due to a car accident. In his memory, they organized this golf tournament to help raise scholarship money for his children’s post-secondary education. By 1994 the Lacina family no longer needed the funds, but the chamber decided keep the giving spirit alive. This year the chamber expects more than 100 golfers and is excited to award six students with $1,000 scholarships toward their future educations.

“This event not only supports higher education to local students, but provides many opportunities for golfers to play with friends, local leaders and local celebrities,” says President of the Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce Barbara Tuccitto Warren. “The tournament is also a great opportunity for businesses to receive recognition by our local community by sponsoring a hole or buying a round of golf at a spectacular 18-hole course.”
