Four Simple Ways to Acquire Market Share

Simple truths of aquiring more market share in any business!

I still can’t believe how easy it is to gain market share in property services by doing four simple things.

In my experience over the past 18 years these steps have remained the same.  These steps seem to transcend our industry and are applicable in ALL businesses transactions.

1)  Pick up the phone!

I am amazed at how many people are hard to reach and take too long to get back to their customers. Simply picking up the phone and being available when our customers call sets a great first impression. When this simply isn’t possible then getting back to people within 15 minutes for urgent, or 24 hours for non-urgent is crucial. Most people do not do not follow this simple first step very well.

2)  Show up on time!

This simple step is often missed and has almost become acceptable. When being on time is simply not possible then refer to step one and PICK UP THE PHONE. We all know in advance when we are running late. We should be calling the minute we realize we are going to be late. Sometimes I call because I might be late and end up on time.

3)  Do what you say you will do, when you say you will do it!

The most crucial piece of this is making sure you have set the right expectations from the start. Most of us have heard about “Under promise, over deliver," yet this steps seems to be often missed. It is never worth landing a job by over promising if in the end your customers are unhappy!

4)  Clean Up!

Leave the customers and or project better then when you found it.  $10 or 10 minutes is usually all it takes to leave a lasting impression before moving on. This is our last shot to give them a “Kick @#$” customer experience that will have them calling you back and referring their friends.

In today’s business world it seems that loyalty is hard to come by and that customers and business to business clients are still looking for those of us who can deliver on these simple steps. Because most people come to expect bad service, following these steps personally and in your organizations can and will dramatically set you apart.  … I have to go now the PHONE IS RINGING!
