Ronnally's Pizza

A trip to a classic Woodbury restaurant.

You might have taken your family out to eat at one of Woodbury's most famous restaurants, Yang's, and not even given a second glance to the small little Italian restaurant that is situated next door.

Inside the restaurant is a rather old and dark place with cheap lights and homey furnishments that you might not care for, but this place packs some big surprises.

Adorned with its cute 50s-themed logo, you might not even know that Ronnally's is the oldest family restaurant in Woodbury, with more of 35 years of experience. You also might not know that the Doobie Brothers—the guys who wrote "China Grove", all you youngsters—ate there at a certain point (or they at least have an autographed photo of them on their wall).

This, before we started dating, used to be my boyfriend's favorite restaurant. And it's understandable as to why. , in addition to its history here in Woodbury and great service, has some of the best Italian you can get in this town.

While Ronnally's may not be much for appetizers (they more so offer sides or extra meats to go with your meal) they offer a variety of classic Italian foods including various pastas, sandwiches, dinners, and of course, pizza.

Strangely enough, although Ronnally's is known for having the best conventional pizza as according to MSP magazine, I have never tried their pizza. Rather, I go for an old Italian classic that I originally formed my affiliation for at DiGidio's in St. Paul. Piping hot and served fresh to order, this kicks my chicken Parmesan craving with ease. It's baked with a thick layer of delicious mozzarella over the top of it, concealing away the hot chicken, spaghetti, and red sauce beneath.

My boyfriend ordered the mostaccioli, in which the noodles were cooked well but not rubbery, and the meatball was cooked thoroughly; the red sauce was just as tasty and fresh as mine. The pasta dishes are served in huge portions in additon to your choice of bread, garlic sticks, or garlic toast. I ordered my parm at a 1/2 size and I still couldn't finish it all. But that's good anyways because it means more deliciousness for lunch tomorrow!

In addition to the parm I had an average salad that was made special with the inclusion of mozzarella shreddings and their house-made bleu cheese dressing. So if you're thinking about adding a small dinner salad with your entree, just go ahead. It's only an extra $2.50 more, which sounds to me like an okay deal.

If you haven't tried this Woodbury original, I recommend that you do. It's an easy outing for some classic, but simple and safe Italian food. If it's your first time and you're feeling pretty hungry, go ahead and order the parm or any one of their pasta dishes. However, I have one request for when you do go there: let me know how the pizza tastes!
