A Royal Homecoming Week

An overview of the Woodbury High School Homecoming week 2011. It was certainly a Royal week, filled with memorable costumes, performances, and a big win.

Hello everyone!

My name is Dahye Jung, and I am the newest student blogger for Woodbury Patch. I am very excited about this blog, so stay tuned for posts about the life of a student in Woodbury.

I think everybody knows that this past week was the 2011 Homecoming week for .

Oh boy, let's just say that it was a busy week.

On Sunday, the WHS Student Council spent a total of FIVE hours decorating the entire school, from the cafeteria to the bathrooms! It was hard work, but in the end it all paid off. The school looked AMAZING and I think the rolls and rolls of masking tape was all worth it.

The dress-up days were definitely unique. Crayola day, twin day, beach day, Harry Potter day, and the White Out was the week's schedule.

I try my best to show school spirit by dressing up a bit, but I'm nowhere near the extent of some students! There is always that handful of students at our school that go ALL-OUT when it comes to dressing up. Sometimes I even wonder where the heck they get the stuff they wear!

My favorite day was Harry Potter day... wizard battles at lunch anyone?

Finally, Friday, October 7, 2011, came. HOMECOMING DAY!

The day all Royal students have been anticipating. If I had to describe the day in one word, I would say "white." The entire school, (well, except for those few people who either forgot to wear white or are color blind) sported white. The .

With , and Mrs. Freeman hosting, it was a half hour filled with talent and fun!

I was actually really impressed by the cheer team. Their performance was great, incorporating tumbling, stunting, and sharp arm movements in the routine. The dance team was just fabulous and sassy. Their boy-girl dance was entertaining, to say the least! The band was terrific as always, and the drum line got the crowd dancing.

There was a parade following the pep fest, which I participated in for the dance team. Many sports and activities had their floats, showing more Royal pride. To be honest, there really weren't that many people watching... But it was still fun and the weather was very nice!

I'm thinking that it will improve next year, given this was the first-ever Homecoming parade.

The junior varsity dance team kicked off the night with a pre-game performance. The football players run on the field (cue fireworks, fog machine, and cheers) and the game starts.

Something like 5 minutes into the game, the Royals score a  touchdown. I would say it was a pretty good start. At halftime, the performance was amazing. The varsity dance team performed, executing an impeccable kick line shaped as a "W." The marching band was awesome.

I give props to them for memorizing four songs in a row, plus the precise formations.

For the last hurrah, the dance team, cheer team, and the marching band combined to form an organized and well-practiced jumble to the song "Fireworks" by Katy Perry. I was in the performance for the dance team, and I honestly felt like I was in a music video.

At the last beat of the song, the dancers all pointed their fingers to the sky, queuing in $2,000 worth of fireworks. The song was very appropriate for the occasion, no? The fireworks were beautiful, loud, and sparkly, who doesn't like that?

The second half went on, and the Raiders. The homecoming school dance came after, piling in students. Fist-pumping, dance-off circles, grinding, dougie-ing, doing the chacha slide, grade shout outs, etc... the usual school dance scene.

It was a great night, a good day, and a Royal week. Time flies when you're having fun. Homecoming week came to a close, and we will all return to Woodbury High School just like any other Monday.

The decorations will be gone, and our regular clothes will be worn. The week is gone, but Homecoming 2011 will always remain in our memory. I can't wait to see what Royal legacy Homecoming 2012 will bring next.
