Bites Nearby: Amazing Cuisine With Golf Course Views in Woodbury

Combine Axel's of Prestwick Golf Club's amazing cuisine with their spectacular patio golf course views and you have yourself a social hot spot.

For locals, is a social mecca for the young and old, attracting not only golfers during the season, but also business people, luncheon groups and those who live in nearby neighborhoods.

The restaurant's large patio overlooks the 18th green of the eponymous golf course and makes for a great spot for people-watching, enjoying a drink, and of course, good conversation on a warm summer’s night.

"We have two chefs who work at Axel’s of Prestwick, Joe Bader and Russell Busch. This allows us to continually deliver clubhouse cuisine that’s a step above your typical local restaurant fare," bar manager Lauri Pickett said.

One such entree is the pistachio-encrusted ahi tuna ($25). This sushi-grade ahi is rolled in ground up pistachio nuts and then seared, lending a slight hint of crispiness to it. It’s topped with wild mushroom, aged balsamic and grilled asparagus tips, and served with your choice of a starter and potato.

For those golfers looking to order food from the GPS device located on their cart, make sure to order the prime rib wrap ($6). This large tomato basil wrap is stuffed full of shaved, tender prime rib, a mix of spring greens, and drizzled with a garlic and red pepper aioli. A side of tasty sweet potato fries is an added perk. Golfers can just drive their cart up to the “golf shack” for pick up on their way to the next nine.

If you love the tastes and smells of a fresh garden, try Axel’s caprese plate ($10). Big enough to share as a starter or make as a meal, it consists of mixed lettuce greens, fresh mozzarella cheese slices, sliced, red-ripe tomatoes and fresh basil. It’s all artfully presented on a large white platter, and then drizzled with olive oil and aged balsamic vinaigrette. Crunchy (and addictive) garlic toast points are served with this salad. Pair it with a chilled lemon drop martini, and you’ll have a refreshing mix of summertime flavors.

Last, but not least, Pickett said, “We’ve just added root beer kegs to our taps.”

This is good news for kids an adults. Gather up the family and head on over to Axel’s for a good old-fashioned real root beer float ($6), complete with large frosty mug and scoops of vanilla ice cream. It’s super frothy on top it casts hints of spice and cream.

Want to really splurge? Get a root beer float plus two of their homemade root beer cookies ($9/float with cookies). These root beer cookies are baked fresh per order so they come out warm and chewy.
