Last Big Snowfall of the Year for Woodbury?

Patch asked Woodbury resident and WCCO meteorologist Chris Shaffer about the weather on Tuesday.

WCCO meteorologist Chris Shaffer, who lives in Woodbury, said the storm had dumped just over six inches in the city by mid-morning.

But for the most part, the accumulation was over, he said.

“It could snow the rest of the day and it won’t amount to much,” Shaffer said Tuesday. “Maybe another half inch or an inch.”

One interesting note about the snowstorm: Shaffer said it initially looked like a typical clipper system that would amount to 2-3 inches for much of the state, but other weather systems made the snow more severe.

“It was a very rare setup,” he said.

While there are other systems on the horizon, they will likely be of the rain-snow mix variety, Shaffer said.

“I don’t think we’ll see heavy totals like this,” he said. “This is probably the last biggie.”

Last March saw an 80-degree day for Minnesota, but that’s probably not going to happen this year, Shaffer said.

Tuesday was also the first time school had been closed due to snow for Shaffer’s daughters.

“They’re tearing it up out there,” he said.

Hope that Chris is right: don't know about you but I'm getting a bit tired of snow. But let's not be too sure that this is the last one. In 1985 (I think that's the yr) we had a huge snowstorm on 31 March. And in 1983 we had one on 15 April, 10-15 inches worth as I recall. Back in 1892 the TC station offically recorded 3 inches of snow on 20 May. Latest snow in this area? Probably the Trace that fell at the St Paul airport on 1 June 1946.

Thanks for the info Thomas. (And I'm getting tired of the snow myself.)
