“There have been worse years,” Jessup said.

Sole Mio

The council quickly approved a liquor license for Sole Mio, a new Italian restaurant slated to open in Woodbury’s this September.

Background checks on the four owners came back clear, City Clerk Kim Blaeser said.

There was no formal discussion on the matter, and no one spoke during the public hearing.

“We’re excited,” Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens said. “The ‘Giuliani’ in me—we like our Italian.”

Owner and chef Angelo Montes, a native of Italy who moved to Woodbury about 13 years ago, said he too is looking forward showing the city his culinary creations.

“For us, it’s a pleasure to be part of this community,” he said.

One last note: Wednesday marked 28 years of marriage for Montes and his wife.
