Roundabout Planned at Radio Drive and Military Road in Woodbury

Washington County plans to construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Radio Drive and Military Road in Woodbury.

The county had planned some road improvements in the area and will also begin expanding Radio Drive from Bailey Road to Hargis Parkway this spring, and it made sense to consider the roundabout at this point, said Cory Slagle, Washington County transportation manager.

The county isn’t sure if the work would begin this fall or in 2014, he said. A feasibility study must also be completed.

“It’s not fully definite yet,” Slagle said.

While it would be a single-lane roundabout, it could be expanded in the future—the county plans to eventually make Radio Drive a four-lane road at Military Road.

“We would design it with that in mind,” Slagle said.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners recently approved a contract with Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., to start design work. The design contract is for $78,416. The project on the county roads is part of the county’s 2013 Capital Improvement Plan.

The construction would be part of a major season of roadwork for Woodbury.

Washington County plans to expand Woodbury Drive from two lanes to four from Park Crossing to a quarter mile south of Bailey Road, along with the Radio Drive expansion.

Roundabouts are planned at the Lake and Bailey roads intersections as part of the Woodbury Drive project.
