South Washington County Schools Recount Complete

The tally of the votes for Molly Lutz and Sharon Van Leer was completed on Friday, Nov. 22.

A recount by District 833 confirmed Sharon Van Leer was elected to the South Washington County School Board.

Candidate Molly Lutz asked for a recount after only five votes separated her and Van Leer in the Nov. 5 election.

The recount found one more vote for Van Leer, meaning six votes separated the candidates, according to a news release from the district.

Van Leer will be sworn in on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.

The district will pay for the recount. The cost of the recount was estimated at $500, but the final total has not yet been determined, according to the district.
