Where to Vote, Profiles, Referenda: 2013 School Board Election Guide

The 2013 election is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Voters will also find three ballot initiatives when they head to the polls.

The election for South Washington County School Board is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The District 833 School Board has five seats up for election in 2013.

Four members will be elected to four-year terms; one will be elected to fill the vacancy of the two-year term expiring Jan. 4, 2016. There are 14 people vying for the four-year terms and three candidates for the two-year term.

Referendum Questions

There will be three ballot initiatives put to voters Tuesday.

Question 1: Renewal of the district’s expiring referendum for 10 years, which generates approximately $4.6 million annually for the general fund.

Question 2: Increases the operating referendum by $337per pupil or a total of approximately $6.9 million annually for the general fund, beginning in 2014-15 for the next 10 years.

Question 3: Requests $8 million for the purchase and improvement of land to meet future building needs.

A sample ballot is included with this post. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The forecast for Tuesday calls for precipitation. From the National Weather Service

Rain likely before 4 p.m., then rain and snow. High near 42. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
