The New Life Academy Drama Department will be performing Fiddler on the Roof Nov. 7-9 and Nov. 15-17.
Fiddler on the Roof is a musical created by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein. It takes place in 1905 in Tsarist Russia. The story is based on Tevye, a Jewish man who does what he can to maintain his family and religious traditions while in the midst of many outside pressures. He faces the strong wills of his oldest daughters who insist on marrying men who have wandered from their Jewish traditions. He also suffers the eviction of his village under an edict from the Tsar.
This musical has been popular since its original production, which ran for nearly ten years. It was the first Broadway show to play over 3000 performances. It has been remade and adapted many times in film and other theater forms to reach more audiences.
