Two Shows! One Night!
Dan Chouinard, of Prairie Home Companion fame, brings a night of rhythm-and-blues and gospel music, with a ten piece band including vocalists Yolande Bruce of Moore by Four and Cynthia Johnson (The Time!) in two different shows on Saturday February 1.
Rondo '56 tells the story of St. Paul's old African-American Main Street, destroyed when Highway 94 went right through its center around 1960. R&B, gospel, doo-wop and a hot rhythm section, plus vocalists, vintage visuals, and a gospel choir, bring Rondo back to life. It's a big show, guaranteed to fill up the night with music.
And, in a change of mood, Chouinard, Yolande Bruce and Bruce Henry will sing an intimate, unplugged cabaret starting at 10 pm. "We'll turn down the lights, set the singers around the piano, and hear an hour of late-night music to keep us all warm," said organizer Peg Guilfoyle.
