Adele Morris will speak on “Political Prospects for Putting a Price on Carbon”. Ms. Morris has written recently about  establishing a carbon tax in the U.S. as part of federal tax reform, reporting a study that found that 95% of economists agree that a carbon tax is the most economically efficient way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and advocating for establishment of an international Carbon Pricing Consultation body through which the nations of the world can share the results of their various carbon tax models. (Carbon taxes have been adopted in Sweden, Australia, Finland, Ireland, Norway, and South Africa, and the EU has a major CO2 emissions trading system; India has a small tax on coal, and China is experimenting with cap-and-trade measures at the local and regional level for possible expansion nationwide; Canada also has several sub-national carbon pricing systems.)

Citizens Climate Lobby meetings happen generally on the first Saturday of the month. CCL currently has active Minnesota chapters in Alexandria, Bemidji, Morris, Willmar, St Paul, Wayzata, Dakota County, Edina, St Cloud, Two Harbors and the St Croix Valley. Each month, the locations for all CCL meetings across Minnesota can be seen at www.citizensclimatelobby-mn.org.

Citizens Climate Lobby also is planning a regional conference for the weekend of January 24 to 26. The conference will take place at Macalester College in St Paul, and will feature meteorologist Paul Douglas and CCL Executive Director Mark Reynolds as keynote speakers.
