Before You Buy That Jogging Stroller...

Do all the jogging stroller options make your head spin? Here are the things you need to know before purchasing...

Are you in the market for a jogging stroller but are overwhelmed at all the different options!  Here are a few key things to consider when buying a jogging stroller.

Walk, Jog, or Run?

You first need to determine you primary purpose for the jogging stroller.  You will find that most jogging strollers now offer a swivel front wheel.  The swivel wheel allows for greater manipulating, but isn’t appropriate for jogging or running.  Jogging strollers with a swivel wheel are designed for urban shoppers, off road use and power walkers.  If you intend to do any jogging or running with your stroller you should avoid those strollers with a swivel front wheel.

  • Three non-swivel wheels
  • Inflatable tires that are at least 16-inches in diameter (20-inch wheels are recommended for more serious running)
  • Lightweight aluminum frame
  • Hand brake for the front wheel to help you slow the pace
  • Foot brake for rear wheels to “park” the stroller
  • Adjustable sun shade
  • 5-point safety harness
  • Run-away leash

An adjustable-height handlebar is essential if you plan to share the stroller with your partner.  Adjusting the handlebar helps to ensure proper stroller posture and can prevent wrist pain and discomfort.

No matter what type of stroller you are looking for, be sure to try it before you buy it.  Ask your friends for recommendations, take their stroller out for a test drive, compare safety features, and always test the stroller in the store before you make a purchase.
