Smile and Nod

When you become a parent, you become an open target for unsolicited parenting advice.

A couple weeks ago, the cover of Time magazine caused some buzz with the picture of a mother breastfeeding her three year old child. The image itself is enough to make some people blush and others turn away in embarrassment.

Most people have an opinion on the topic and will share what they believe is appropriate and how old a child should be breastfed for. But should this really be a concern for others?  Maybe we are all guilty of being too personally involved in others parenting decisions.

I can’t think of any other time in your life when you receive more unsolicited advice from family, friends and complete strangers. I am unsure why this is, but everybody seems to believe they are an expert in the field of childrearing and they are more than happy to share all of their knowledge with you.
