"You're a good mom"

Those four little words meant the world to me and were exactly what I needed to hear!

I am sure all parents have been there before;

  • a child that seems to be doing anything and everything to defy you,
  • you are usually in a crowded area,
  • you feel like everybody is looking at you and wondering why you can't control your child,
  • and at that moment you vow to never judge another parent again!

This was exactly where I found myself just the other day in church with a 3 year old that was being a typical 3 year old, showing the world just how independent he was. It was one of the longest services of my life as I felt everybody was waiting and watching to see how my husband and I would discipline our son.

At the end of the service, I breathed a sigh of relief that we actually survived and tried to make a quick exit. Thankfully, an older gentlemen that was sitting behind us was kind enough to take a moment to catch up to me, leaned over my shoulder, and whispered those four words that almost made me cry, "You're a good mom".

It was such a simple statement that spoke volumes to me.

So to all those parents out there, never forget that you are doing a great job.

Never underestimate the power of a simple encouraging statement. I challenge you to speak words of encouragement to that person that looks like they are struggling, you just never know how it might change their day.
