Where is President Obama While the Mideast Burns?

The Middle East is burning, who cares? What is really important is that favorite Beyonce workout song for this President.

President Obama, in between fundraisers, campaign stops, and celebrity appearances on the View to be "eye candy," managed to squeeze in a speech to the United Nations recently.

Usually, this annual pilgrimage to New York also includes many one on one visits with other Heads of State in New York for the United Nations conference. But not this year. President Obama has not accepted one invitation to speak with any world leaders.

This curious turn caused the Obama spin machine to go into hyper drive on the recent Sunday talk show circuit.

Robert Gibbs, questioned by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, let us know that the phones work fine and that the President is on them quite a bit. How reassuring. The President is phoning it in on Foreign Policy while his strategy of appeasement is burning the the Middle East and parts of Asia.

Now, let's get to the real reason the Commander in Chief is not taking meetings.  As is customary in an election year, if the President meets with a foreign Head of State, the opposition, Mitt Romney in this case, would also, most likely, request, and receive a meeting with that same leader.  In an election, anticipated to be as close as people are saying (not me, I have it at Romney by 5-8%), the President cannot afford to have Mr. Romney look presidential.

By Mr. Romney merely having the photo ops and meetings with World Leaders, he would look presidential. I personally think that Mr. Romney not only looks presidential, but for the most part acts presidential.

There have been protests, some violent and deadly, aimed at the US.  These are terrible events that are unfolding before our eyes. But a pliant and obedient media are more than happy to bury these stories deep in their coverage or not talk about them at all. The media is openly cheering for Mr. Obama to have a second term.  They are only too happy to gloss over his failed Foreign Policy initiatives and fawn over what his favorite work out song from Beyonce.

Picture in 2004 if President George W. Bush, then in a fierce re-election battle with John Kerry decided to not hold any meetings with World Leaders? For the record he held three, he met with the Prime Ministers of India, Japan and Iraq.  For that matter, if he was spending time with the women of the View?  The press would have been apoplectic. It would have plastered the front page of every paper and lead every newscast for days. However, the current President gets very little mention, if any, from a complicit media.

The double standard is breath taking. But, hey, don't worry, the phones work fine and the President can just phone it in like usual. These are serious times, for serious people and the President needs to either stand up and make a forceful statement or let someone else take the reigns.

It is time for the media to act like the journalists they claim to be and cover this election in a fair manner.
