Celebrating Mothers' Day in Woodbury

Staying in and around Woodbury proved to be a great way to celebrate Mothers' Day.

I had a feeling my Mothers' Day would be superb. The only plans we had were to go out for breakfast, whenever I woke up.

So, yes, I slept until about 8:40 and came downstairs to my gift (a bike!). I was excited, but the kids were bouncing off the walls with the excitement of the revelation of the secret gift they had been planning, the forthcoming restaurant trip, and, in Theo's case, just the pleasure of seeing me for the first time today.

After many hugs and smooches, we headed out for breakfast at The Woodbury Cafe. It was only a little after 9, but Theo was already getting close to his morning nap time. We knew we would likely be in for a wait (and we did wait about 20 minutes), but the kids powered through. When our food came, both kids ate as if they hadn't for a week—and Lex, for the first time ever, finished a children's meal, all by herself. We stuffed ourselves and left to get Theo down for a nap before he really lost it.

We went home, where Lex and I changed quickly and went over the border to Oakdale's Guardian Angel's church for Sunday Mass. There were two Baptisms today, and Lex actually seemed interested. Even though she had just downed a huge apple juice, she didn't ask to leave for the bathroom in the middle of Mass. Instead, she did a lot of snuggling with me. All in all, a success - especially given that the service was a half-hour longer than usual.

On our way home, we stopped at a flower sale in the parking lot of the Woodbury Holiday station; it was a fundraiser for a youth hockey organization (not sure which one). Lex helped me pick out three plants, and then we headed to Trader Joe's to buy Theo some whole milk. At the checkout line, the clerk handed me a bouquet of tulips—in honor of Mothers' Day.

We were hoping to plant our flowers today—not to mention try out that new bike—but it started to rain. Instead, the kids napped and I sorted through summer clothes for them.

Very laid back day, very me. I couldn't be happier.
