League Forum Leans Left

Predictable liberal-leaning questions dominated the night at the forum here at Woodbury City Hall Oct 9.

Democrats, once again, proved that they have no new ideas! A writer visiting a similar forum held recently describes the political split: “The solutions to the problems…could not be more different and they are right down party lines. The questions covered: Voter ID, How to avoid shutdowns, do you support a state run Health insurance exchange, MN tax is regressive - what is your tax philosophy, Union membership - Dayton veto of Right to Work, marriage amendment and education funding/spending shifts.

You might say, well how is that progressive? Sadly, there were very few questions about the economy and how to improve it for our families and young people. The Right to Work question started out focusing on union membership.

The Democrats always praise the merits of unions. Republicans have no problem with unions, they simply believe in giving employees the “choice” to join them. 

Rep. Kieffer made a great point of distinguishing between private and public sector unions and pointed out that many constituent union members are not happy that their union financially supports political views that are not their own.  Again, citizens should have a choice as to what political views their money supports. 

But the real tragedy here is that getting our economy back on track seems to be of little importance to the progressives.  I wonder if Minnesota’s citizens would agree?
