Christian Cupboard to Host Event with New Executive Director

The local food shelf recently hired Kristin Kinney.

The  Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf will host a “Welcome Kristin Kinney to Woodbury” reception July 10.

Kinney recently took over the top administrative position for the food shelf, located at Woodbury Lutheran Church. She plays “an important role as the organization pursues a broader vision addressing factors contributing to food insecurity,” according to a release.

The event, hosted by the Woodbury Community Foundation, is set for 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at City Hall. There will be a brief program at 4:40 p.m.

Like the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf (CCEFS), the Woodbury Community Foundation (WCF) has made providing food for the less fortunate one if its goals.

Two members of the WCF Leadership Forum, Prelude Homes and CorTrust Bank, and Kowalski’s Market Woodbury, are sponsoring the event.

The event is free and open to the public, and organizers encouraged those who attend to invite neighbors and friends. Good-will offerings of food or cash are welcome.

From the Christian Cupboard:

The Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf was formed as a non-profit organization by seven Woodbury area churches in 1983. The Woodbury Lutheran Church made space available to house CCEFS, and has remained the host church ever since. Twenty-eight years later, the need continues to grow.

In the first year of operation, on average 5 households came to the shelf each week to obtain assistance. By 2005, the number of needy households served averaged 75 per week; today, as many as 100 households or more are served each week. CCEFS provides more than 300,000 pounds of food and personal care products annually to those in need.
