Woodbury Police Officer Delivers Baby on I-94

The mother and baby were reportedly doing well following the July 23 delivery along the freeway.

A Woodbury police officer delivered a baby in a car on the shoulder of Interstate 94 last week.

Natalie Bauer, an officer/paramedic, responded to the call at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, according to a release from the Public Safety Department. The mother was on her way to the hospital at the time.

“It’s a pretty special thing to be part of this kind of call, as a paramedic we often respond to situations that are not pleasant,” she said in the release. “It’s happy moments like this that keep us going.”

Just minutes after Bauer approached the vehicle the baby was delivered.

The umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck, but Bauer had a previous delivery in the field, preparing her for the situation, according to the release.
