Three Bears Good, at The Woods of Woodbury

Last week, Dave Looney opened The Woods of Woodbury. He has stores in Maple Grove and in the Southdale Mall, Edina.   Woodbury is his latest venture.  He ought to be extremely tired: I can only say that, as of yet, it clearly doesn't show.

His latest shop is characteristically spry, witty, irreverent and joyous.  A welcome inventive variation on shopping in Woodbury!

Mr. Looney and loyal staff members arrived for the ribbon cutting ceremony for The Three Bears on Wednesday afternoon.  Mama Bear (Mayor Mary Giuliani-Stephens), Grizzly Bear himself from Up North, and Baby Bear all ambled their way in.

The place is so whimsical; Goldilocks wanted to tell her point of view regarding her conundrum of proper serving temperature for porridge, and the difficulties one once faced in a pre-Sleep Number era.  Who wouldn’t paw to lend her an ear, as the home decor furniture and gifts galore are all so sylvan and rustic -- seemingly made by artisan bears!

Fortunate shoppers pawed all of the goodies repeatedly.

GOLDILOCKS GOBBLED UP ALL OF MAMA BEAR’S PORRIDGE AND MORE

Mama Bear (Mayor) scolded Goldilocks for taking advantage of the equipped kitchen on premises, and warned her about eating too much porridge in The Woods facility (free samples offered daily).  Mama Mayor Bear also cautioned that Goldie’s busy storytelling and tepid porridge may lend itself, come late October, to a sort of snug sleepiness on cooler evenings that may just create a new appreciation for warm, soft beds.  Apparently Mama Bear didn’t have back problems.

HANG UP YOUR HAT AND STAY AWHILE (A LONG WHILE) IS OUR MOTTO

The Woods of Woodbury appreciated the welcome from the Chamber of Commerce; and Looney had mentioned how he appreciated the authentic welcome he has received from the community.  This sort of welcome is surely not unique to the Woodbury business community and their ambassadors.

Here, you will find a big store with lots of choices, and great ideas for Northwood’s gifts. And if you let your imagination go, it can really feel like it is a pantomime put on by a whole cast of woodland fairytale characters.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING, THE GEESE ARE GETTING FAT.

Santa is coming to The Woods, the day after Thanksgiving, so mark your calendars.  Drop in and say “Hi!” to the friendly and helpful staff soon.

 LINGER AWHILE

The fun is authentic, incredibly nifty, and very warm.  I found that The Woods at Woodbury did not show off its cleverness, instead it invites you to share the excitement of shopping for whimsy; enticing and giving room for your own imagination to wander and wonder.

Who knows, they may very well have Mother Goose in dark cat-eye glasses donning a Liz Taylor headscarf, signing autographs at the exit door on my next visit. Or hunter-red plaid scarf at the very least.
