I decided to put my 2-year-old in the tots class and my 12-year-old daughter in the musical theatre class that was offering this dance season. My older daughter attends Monday night class while my 2-year-old attends a late Tuesday afternoon class.
Last week, on Wednesday or Thursday, my older daughter comes home from school and says, "Mom, the owner of RDS has left and is taking all the competition dancers with her!" I thought, oh boy, I wonder what that means.

Eventually we received an email from the studio explaining that yes, the owner had left and had involved her competition dancers in a situation that they shouldn't have been involved in. My phone started ringing and the rumor mill started.
One person heard this, another that, but in the end all it has done is left me feeling bitter and confused about the next step to take.

My girls are in recreation dance, not competition. A friend told me on Saturday he took his daughter to hip-hop class and she was the only one who showed up and they learned that her instructor left also, so they decided to cancel their contract with RDS.
I decided to take my older daughter last night to class just to see what was happening.
A dance instructor from a studio in Oakdale arrived 15 minutes late to my daughters class. All but two girls were still there for the class. He was a great instructor and seemed to work really hard at trying to make the girls feel comfortable... I mean it was a guy so there was a lot of nervous giggles.
I spoke to the owner of Ultimate Martial Arts and he said they are planning on keeping RDS open, they just haven't had time to figure out what to do.
It sounds like there is a possible new partnership that could be happening but all we can do is wait and see.
I am going to take my 2-year-old this afternoon and see what happens with her class because both her and her older sister had the same instructor who has also now left.
I am left needing answers. It feels very unsettling to put your trust in something and someone and have that taken away due to what sounds like bad business. This has left many families wondering what to do and where to go since all the other dance studios have already started their sessions.
I hope there will be some resolution to what is happening soon.
