Jim Kowalski, owner of Woodbury-based Kowalski's Markets, died Thursday in an accident on a plane, according to the Pioneer Press. He was 67.

There were previous reports that he died in a plane crash, but the plane was on the ground when the accident happened, the newspaper reports.

From KSTP:

The Ontario Provincial Police Red Lake Branch says Kowalski was standing on the float of the plane, which was taxiing slowly toward the shore, when he lost his balance and fell into the propeller.

The Woodbury Kowalski's, designed to look like a European village, opened in 2000 and was the first built from the ground up, according to the company's website.

Kowalski co-owned the local grocery chain with his wife, Mary Anne.
