The caller told police he believed they may have been part of "some sort of ritual."

Woodbury police on May 4 were called about several dead and burned animals found in and around a garbage can near Tamarack Road and Interlachen Parkway.

Officers got the call at about 7:45 p.m. after children who were playing in the area reported the findings to adults, according to a police report.

As an officer approached, he could smell a strong odor coming from a tan garbage can, in which there were several dead animals burned and shriveled. Others were found near the garbage can, the report says.
