Car Goes into Pond Off Woodbury Drive

Police suspect alcohol was involved.

A car hit a road sign and went down a hill into a Woodbury pond early Saturday morning.

The driver, a woman believed to be from Woodbury, walked away from the crash, and was standing on the shore of the pond at Lake Road and Woodbury Drive when authorities arrived shortly after receiving a call at about 4:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept 29, said Woodbury Police Sgt. Sue McMahon.

Police suspect alcohol was involved.

“Charges could be pending,” McMahon said.

The vehicle, a late model Buick, was partially submerged in the shallow pond, McMahon said, and as of Saturday morning it wasn’t clear how the woman lost control of the vehicle.

“We’re still reconstructing that,” McMahon said.

A Washington County recovery team and a tow truck were able to remove the car from pond, and the scene was clear at about 8:15 a.m.

The woman was travelling alone.

“We’re very thankful that she’s OK,” McMahon said. “It could have been a very different result.”

Out walking his dog near the pond Saturday morning, John Polski said a car went into the pond after swerving to avoid hitting geese several years ago.
