Woodbury Predator Faces Seventh Felony Charge

Bennie Chapman, Jr., was convicted of failure to register on Oct. 28 and faced a domestic violence trial on Nov. 9.

Former Woodbury resident Bennie Chapman, Jr., 42, was sentenced to 15 months in prison on Oct. 28 after failing to register as a predatory offender.

Chapman allegedly disappeared from his temporary residence in the 3000 block of Copper Oaks Trail sometime between January and April 2011, according to a Washington County criminal complaint.

Chapman was required to notify Woodbury police and his parole officer of any change in primary or secondary address for a period of 10 years following his 2003 felony conviction on charges of false imprisonment (MN Statute 609.255 Sub. 2).

Chapman was taken into custody on Oct. 24 after Woodbury police arrested him for allegedly punching the mother of his children in the head twice while she was driving on Lake Road, a second criminal complaint stated.

The couples’ two minor children were in the car at the time of the alleged assault.

According to the second complaint, the incident occurred after Chapman and the victim began arguing about a physical confrontation between Chapman and the victim’s father earlier in the evening.

Chapman is currently being held at the Minnesota Correctional Facility at St. Cloud and was scheduled to appear before a Washington County judge on Nov. 9 for the alleged domestic assault, according to the Washington County attorney’s office.

At the time of writing, news of Chapman's domestic violence trial was not available and the Washington County Attorney's Office could not be reached for confirmation.

If convicted, it would be Chapman’s third domestic violence-related offense in as many years and his seventh felony conviction since 1996.
