Student Caught With Knives, Marijuana at East Ridge Dance

The student smelled of marijuana and authorities found two spring-loaded knives in his backpack, along with a drug pipe.

A local high school student(*) was caught with two knives and marijuana during a Sept. 16 dance at , according to police and media reports.

The 14-year-old was stinking of marijuana when he came into the dance—held for ninth-graders—and tried to purchase a ticket, according to a police report. Police found a marijuana pipe and two spring-loaded knives in his backpack.

Calls to the Woodbury Police Department were unreturned, but authorities told the Woodbury Bulletin that the boy may be charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and marijuana possession.

“It’s hard to tell what his intent was,” Cmdr. Jay Alberio told the Bulletin. “It’s always a concern for police and students if someone shows up with weapons.”

District 833 Communications Director Barb Brown declined to comment to the Bulletin, but said that the district, in similar situations, follows its policies. Dicipline for such offenses, according to the Bulletin report, include possible one-year expulsion.
