Fishy Situation, Music Man, Phone Charges: Woodbury Police Blotter

Selected calls to the Woodbury Public Safety Department from June 11-18.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

June 11

The front door of a home on Military Road was broken and two laptops and an unknown amount of jewelry was stolen.

A resident called about a man sitting in a red Jeep Liberty with its music blaring; she had seen the same car doing the same thing in a different Woodbury park the day before. The vehicle was gone by the time police arrived.

A Lake Ridge Drive resident called police after a new friend, whom he met via social media, was trying to break into his home. The friend—described by the caller as not being respectful of the living arrangements or thankful for the food and shelter—had been locked out of the home without his personal items, leading to the “attempted break in.” Police talked with both parties, and they agreed to go their separate ways.

June 12

Two people were cited for fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct following a fight in the yard of a Woodbury home. (The location was redacted from the report.) A man and a woman apparently struck each other, but there were no third party witnesses to corroborate either story.

Employees at Plato’s Closet called police after a man became aggressive when they opted not to buy his clothes. (Plato’s Closet sells used clothing.) He had left by the time police arrived.

June 13

A resident at the 7200 block of Guider Drive called police after her son and his friend became verbally abusive toward her. When she told them she had called police, her son and his friend left, and the caller wanted no further assistance.

A Hawthorn Trail resident called police after a teenage boy (14-15 years old) entered his home without permission. The juvenile apologized and said he had the wrong house and left. The boy left on a bicycle and the resident wanted the incident documented.

June 14

Police were called about a suspicious man at Pizza Hut who kept going into the bathroom, and someone thought he may have been wearing a holster. The man told police his stomach was upset; he did not have a holster on.

Employees at the Red Roof Inn called police on behalf of a customer who claimed his phone was stolen from his room overnight. An officer searched the room after he left it, and found the missing phone, along with a methamphetamine pipe. The man denied the pipe was his, but the officer could see he was under the influence of drugs and advised him that he could be cited for DWI if he drove away. The man said he would call a cab.

Employees at Maplewood Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, on Valley Creek Road in Woodbury, called police about an unruly customer who didn’t want to pay for his services. He was swearing at staff and others, and eventually left. Police contacted the man over the phone, and he agreed to return and pay for the exam.

June 15

Police were called to Powers Lake Park about a suspicious angler. The man was removing fish from the water and letting them flop around before releasing them. Officers were familiar with the individual from numerous calls about concern for welfare and/or strange behavior. The man told an officer he would not cause any problems.

June 16

A resident called police after seeing someone in a sedan with loud exhaust doing “burn outs” in the soccer fields north of Liberty Ridge Elementary. Officers found tire tracks and destroyed grass, but the car was gone by the time they arrived.

Police were called about an issue between neighbors. One was upset that the other was yelling and complaining about him. It was part of an ongoing issue. 

June 17

After an alarm went off at a home at the 3700 block of Dakota Avenue went off and a resident found a sliding door open slightly, police found there was attempted burglary.

June 18

A brother and sister got into an argument over the volume of his stereo. Police arrived learned the man had mental issues, and the parties agreed to work things out later that day.
