Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation at Woodbury Life Time Fitness

Xcel crews expected to have the leak fixed by about 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

A gas leak Thursday morning forced the evacuation of the Woodbury Life Time Fitness

The smell of gas was still heavy in the air at about 10:45 a.m., as Xcel Energy crews were digging down behind the fitness center to access the line.

It was expected to be fixed by about 11 a.m., Woodbury Fire Cmdr. John Wallgren told Patch at the scene.

Officials checked nearby houses and told anyone who was at home to close their windows, Wallgren said.

“It’s not as dangerous because of the breeze,” he said.

Life Time staff evacuated the facility after noticing the smell of gas, according to company officials on scene. Crews were working on a fence behind the building when the line was hit.

No one was treated, Wallgren said.

The call came in at 9:42 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.
