Goose Attack, Scary Mary, Coyote 'Had That Look': Woodbury Police Blotter

Selected calls to the Woodbury Public Safety Department from May 14-20.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

May 14

Police were called about an assault at the 1400 block of Surrey Lane. Officers learned that the fight involved two friends, and police checked the area for the suspect, who was located riding his bike. He initially refused to stop cycling for officers, but eventually stopped. He was yelling and causing a scene, and was ordered to the ground and arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.

A resident along the 8000 block of Somerset Road called police after seeing a woman on a red moped going house to house. The caller was concerned because of a recent break-in at a neighbor’s home. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the moped.

Police were called about someone hiding behind trees near Oakwood Road and Sprucewood Drive, but no one was found in the area.

May 15

There was a report of geese attacking pedestrians near Tamarack Road and Bielenberg Drive. Police checked the area but did not come across any aggressive geese.

An employee at Carbone’s called police after noticing windows and exterior doors unsecured at Kindercare. The building was secured.

May 16

A man told police that a coyote stalked his family while they were walking their dog on a trail near Savanna Oaks. The man told an officer the coyote “had that look” and would not stop following them. An officer gave the man tips for dealing with coyotes and told him there might be a den in the nearby woods.

A resident called police after seeing three juveniles on the roof of the Math and Science Academy. They were also wearing headlamps. They climbed down and fled northeast from the school. All buildings were secure and the trio was gone by the time police arrived.

Police were called about an argument involving two women and a man in the parking lot at McDonald’s. A witness told police the man pushed one of the women. Officers made contact with one of the women, who said the argument with her ex-boyfriend started over the use of a van and she was not pushed and did not want to pursue the matter further.

A resident called police about a man carrying a boombox walking near Royal Oaks Elementary and yelling things at people as they drove past.

May 17

A resident called police about a sick fox at Wedgewood Park. The fox was drooling and circling the park, and did not run away when approached. Police were unable to find the animal.

Employees at the Red Roof Inn requested help in evicting a customer who failed to check out of her room and was rude to staff. Police found the woman partially clothed, covered in feces and urine, on the floor of a room. The woman was staying at a nursing home and didn’t like it there and booked a room at the motel. The case was forwarded to Ramsey County Social Services.

A woman at the 2700 block of Oak Ridge Trail heard someone at her front door after she got out of the shower. She went to the front door, heard someone tampering with both locks and looked out the window and saw a woman. The woman said something like: “Hi, it’s Mary, let me in.” When the resident refused, the woman quickly left, and the caller said she thought she heard a vehicle speeding away. Police did not receive any similar reports.

May 19

A resident called police about two “wolf-like” dogs chained to a Suburban parked near the Tavern Grill. Police made contact with the dogs’ owner, who said he spent the night there and was leaving town.

May 20

A resident at the 7000 block of Sherwood Court called police about a neighbor’s garage door that was not closing properly for the past month. A city employee was going to follow up.
