Gym Jealousy, Captain DWI, Cougar Sighting: Woodbury Police Blotter

Selected calls to the Public Safety Department from July 16-22.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

June 16

Woodbury police forwarded to their counterparts in Maplewood a report of people having sex in a car at Battle Creek Park.

Police mediated a dispute between neighbors in which one accused the other of removing a property stake put in the ground for the site of a future fence. One woman admitted she yelled at the other to get off her property. The homes are at the 7500 block of Springbrook Plaza.

June 18

A resident called police after her 17-year-old daughter’s swim suit was untied by a 4-year-old child at the Stonemill Farms pool and two adult men in the vicinity laughed, making the teen uncomfortable. Police were following up.

A resident at the 1000 block of Clipper Way called police after seeing a crying woman who said she was having a fight with her boyfriend. The caller told police the woman got back in the car with the boyfriend and thought it should be reported. There was an hour delay between the incident and call and police did not find anyone.

A resident at the 8900 block of Pheasant Run Road reported seeing a cougar behind her home. Police did not find a cougar in the area and the call was transferred to the State Patrol and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

A Woodbury man who owns a lawn-service company told police he believed one of his employees, with whom he was having a dispute over pay, stole equipment from his garage. He told police he was going to confront the man in St. Paul, and Woodbury police advised him to have officers from that city there when he does so. A St. Paul officer called the Woodbury PD to relay that the issue appeared to be civil in nature, as both men laid claim to the equipment.

A resident at the 1400 block of Donegal Drive reported suspicious people—a pregnant woman, a man and an elderly man—in a neighbor’s backyard. Police checked the area and did not find the individuals and found no issues at the home.

June 19

A woman called police about a situation at Xperience Fitness. She said she had made friends with a married man at the gym who suddenly stopped coming. She contacted him, and he told her he stopped coming because a female employee there said she gets jealous when she sees him talking to the caller. The caller also told police she had received late-night phone calls from a blocked number and suspected it was the employee. She was also fearful that the worker would come after her or her car would get keyed. Police told the caller to take it up with gym staff.

June 21

A West St. Paul man was booked on suspicion of DWI after police saw him driving westbound in the eastbound lane of Valley Creek Road near Woodlane Drive at about 2:30 a.m. He told police he had 10 Captain Morgan and Cokes at Cowboy Jack’s and performed poorly on field-sobriety tests. He registered a .185 on a preliminary breath test.   

A Woodbury resident called police about what appeared to be a newspaper delivery person speeding through the neighborhood and screeching the vehicle’s tires.

June 22

A worker at Woodbury Lutheran Church called police after finding a woman inside the church after hours. The woman became combative. Police made contact with the woman and offered her resources if she needed a place to stay for the night, but she refused and said she was headed to Hudson, Wis.
