Valley Creek Road Stoplights Go Out; No Serious Injuries Reported in Crashes

The lights were out from Radio Drive to Woodbury Drive for more than an hour on Sunday.

No one was seriously injured in car crashes along Valley Creek Road after stoplights on the major Woodbury artery went out for more than an hour Sunday.

A transformer blew and the lights on Valley Creek Road were out from Radio Drive to Woodbury Drive, said Dave Brennen. Some people were hospitalized as a result of the crashes, he said.

The lights went out at about 1 p.m. and were back on by 2:20 p.m., Brennen said.

There was one crash on Woodbury Drive near Antrim Road that happened just before the lights stopped working.

“Just a bizarre coincidence,” Brennen said.

There were at least two crashes caused by the lights being out, and police are looking into the possibility that there may have been a third, Brennen said. Someone may have left the scene of an accident.

Brennen stressed that when a stoplight isn’t working it should be treated as a four-way stop.

“People were just rocking right through there,” he said.
