Man Allegedly Beat Girlfriend at Central Park Lot

A Minneapolis man faces three felony counts after he allegedly beat his wife in the parking lot on May 16.

Giovanni Jacquise Edunjobi, 23, was recently charged with domestic assault, domestic assault by strangulation and violation of a no-contact order.

were dispatched to the on a report of an assault and found a woman crying and upset in the Central Park parking lot, according to the criminal complaint. She had abrasions on her neck and chest and her right eye was swollen.

She initially gave police a false name “because she was scared and ashamed of allowing herself to continuously be victimized by the defendant,” reads the complaint.

The woman told police she and Edunjobi got into an argument about clothing he had left at the home, and it quickly escalated—he punched her and squeezed her neck until she couldn’t breathe, the complaint says.

She then ran into the shared facility and used a phone to call police.

Officers found Edunjobi walking along Valley Creek Road near Century Avenue.

He told police he did commit an assault and had been at a friend’s house, but officers noticed scratch marks on his face that were consistent with the woman’s story, according to the complaint.

They have a daughter together and the child was with the woman at the time of the incident, according to the complaint.

Edunjobi has five prior domestic-assault related convictions within the past 10 years.

If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 13 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
