Man Sends Computer to Ghana, But Paypal Transaction was Fraudulent

The man's suspicions were raised when his Paypal account received more than the agreed amount.

A Woodbury man recently sent a computer to a fictitious man in Ghana and has yet to see a payment.

The man said he sold his HP Envy 20-inch touchscreen computer to "James Emmanuel Jones," according to the Woodbury police complaint. With shipping, he was expecting a payment of $675. He sent the computer to Ghana on Nov. 13.

The next day, he became suspicious when he received a Paypal notice that $1,000—which was more than the agreed amount—had been deposited to his account. When he contacted Paypal, the company confirmed the deposit info was "fictitious and suspected the the subject 'Jones' created a fraudulent account," according to the complaint.

The man contacted the U.S. Postal Service to see if they could stop the delivery, but as of Nov. 15 they had not been able to locate it, according to Woodbury police.
