Man Sentenced to 28 Months for Stalking, Harassing Woodbury Ex-Wife

Roger Cecil Thompson, 65, was also given five years probation and ordered to refrain from contacting the victim for 10 years

A 65-year-old Elmore, Minn., man was sentenced on Jan. 26 to 28 months in prison for violating a no-contact order and stalking his Woodbury ex-wife.

Washington County District Court Judge Tad Jude also sentenced Roger Cecil Thompson to five years probation and ordered the man to have no contact with his ex-wife for a period of 10 years.

Originally charged with additional felony counts of first-degree burglary and violation of a restraining order, the judge dismissed these charges in exchange for Thompson's guilty plea to the others.

According to a Washington County criminal complaint, witnesses saw Thompson follow around his ex-wife and repeatedly ask her if she had a boyfriend while at a picnic in Andover, Minn., on July 21.

Witnesses told police the woman "tried to get away from (Thompson) but that he was always near her" throughout the day.

The complaint says Thompson left the picnic when his ex-wife departed and—without her knowing—followed her to her home in the 10000 block of Kingsfield Lane in Woodbury.

Upon arriving home, the woman—who is hearing-impaired—reportedly unlocked a door to let out her cat and sat down to watch television.

When she got up to let her cat inside, Thompson emerged from a room inside her home, the complaint states. She told police he did not threaten her and that he left the residence when she asked him to do so.

When the woman reported the incident the following day, found an active restraining order against Thompson; it had not expired at the time of the offense.

Police also found a domestic abuse no-contact order (DANCO) against Thompson effective until May 2016.

Thompson's criminal history shows prior convictions for domestic assault (2001); violation of a restraining order (2010); and violation of a DANCO (2011).
