Police Blotter: Mowing Matters, Free Bird, Turtle Rescue

Selected calls to the Woodbury Police Department from May 24-29.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

May 24

A State Patrol trooper called the about graffiti on the deck of a home on Woodbury Drive north of Valley Creek Road. Someone spray painted a pejorative phrase.

Police learned that two solicitors had valid permits with the city after a resident at the 8100 block of Galway Road reported the individuals and thought criminal activity may be afoot.

A resident at the 2700 block of Eagle Valley Drive reported that his mail had been stolen. He learned of the apparent theft only after he inquired about an issue with a check.

A 1996 Saturn that was stolen from the Queens Drive Walgreens parking lot was later recovered at the Kohl’s parking lot. Walgreens surveillance footage shows a man getting out of a Ford Explorer and entering the car, sitting in it for about eight seconds and driving away. Police processes the Saturn for evidence. A backpack was missing from the car.

Items from a locker at were reported stolen. Among the pilfered goods was $280 pair of sunglasses and a cell phone valued at $200.

May 25

Security officers at reported that two women were dumpster diving behind . When confronted by security, they ran across Hudson Road to Pendryn Hill, got into a silver truck and drove away.

A resident at the 2700 block of Mallard Drive called police to ask about a raccoon sighting from the night before. Officers told her to call back if the raccoons get aggressive.

A Woodbury officer was able to capture and release a bird that got into a back room at .

Nothing was stolen after a vacant home at the 6300 block of Bailey Road had its door pried and kicked open. The owner told police there is furniture and appliances inside and he had no issues with former tenants.

Gas was reported siphoned from a vehicle parked at the 6900 block of Collingwood Lane.

After responding to a call about loud music at the 6800 block of Sandlewood Road, police later returned to the scene after two people got into an argument. One man said another threatened to “blow his head off.” Both individuals called 911 about the other. Officers mediated the situation “as best they could” and advised the men to stay inside their homes.

May 26

Two floodlights at a home at the 2800 block of Eagle Valley Circle were reported broken.

A resident at the 200 block of Pendryn Hill Bay called police after a neighbor was outside taking photos of his son while the boy was mowing the lawn. Officers learned that the two homeowners had issues about cutting grass along the property line. Police told the caller that there is no expectation of privacy while mowing the lawn and it isn’t illegal to take photos. The man who was taking the photos had posted No Trespassing signs after he had issues with neighbors coming onto his property. Police mediated a resolution.

Employees at the called police after a man allegedly made threats to staff, including saying he would throw one of them down the stairs. The man was upset because he had left cigars in his room but when he called back employees said they had found cigarettes but not cigars. Police contacted the man, who said he would not return to the motel.

An employee at admitted to taking $440 in gift cards and using them at the . The employee paid restitution.

A resident at the 900 block of Autumn Drive called police to report that someone cut his cable TV wire where it exits the home.

Police escorted a group of individuals back to their hotel rooms at the after they became abusive when staff at the refused to serve them any more alcohol.

May 27

A man at the 3500 block of North View Lane chased away two juveniles in hoodies he saw going through his vehicle. Police later found two people in hoodies who had been drinking, but the resident said it wasn’t them.

May 28

A resident at the 1100 block of Lakemoor Drive called police after finding a large snapping turtle in a window well. An officer rescued the turtle and relocated it to a nearby pond.

A toolbox was reported stolen from a detached garage at the 6900 block of Collingwood Lane.

A resident found a bong in a black case near the intersection of Maple Boulevard and Hazel Street. Police destroyed it.

A resident who was moving out of a home at the 7300 block of Steepleview Road called police to report her cell phone was missing and one of the people helping her move may have taken it.
