Police Investigate Dead Body Found Along Shore of St. Croix River

Investigators with the Washington County Sheriff's Office have determined that the body found in Lakeland appeared to have been in the water for a long period of time and was in a significant state of decomposition," Commander Brian Mueller said.

A body was found Tuesday morning along the shore of the St. Croix River.

The body has not identified at this time. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Deputies were called to the 900 block of Quentin Avenue South in Lakeland at about 11:38 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, on a report of a possible deceased body on the shore, Cmdr. Brian Mueller said. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the body.

“It was determined that the subject was deceased, appeared to had been in the water for a long period of time and was in a significant state of decomposition,” Mueller said.

Because of decomposition, it's difficult to tell if the person is a man or woman, Mueller said.

The body was turned over to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

The incident remains under investigation, Mueller said, and there is no further information available at this time.
