Second Person Charged in Woodbury Mail Theft Case

Eugene Laron Johnson, 26, of St. Paul, is the latest to face a felony count.

A second individual been charged with felony aiding and abetting mail theft stemming from a December 2011 incident in Woodbury. 

Eugene Laron Johnson, 26, of St. Paul, was among the four people stopped in a van after police got a Dec. 9, 2011, tip about mail theft at the 7700 block of Havenwood Circle, according to the criminal complaint.

Inside the van, police found mail from at least nine people, Social Security numbers from eight people, ID from at least nine people and washed or altered checks totaling $9,000, the complaint says. 

Woodbury police issued a warning about an uptick in mail theft in the city last winter.

In an interview with officers, one of the individuals who was in the van admitted the group was driving around stealing mail from mailboxes, according to the compliant. 

If convicted on the felony charge, Johnson faces up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
