State Agents Busted Woodbury Man at MSP Thanksgiving Eve

Alberto Jose Marzan could be in for a long engagement.

It was a rude awakening Thanksgiving eve as one Woodbury man waited for his turn to get into Terminal 1 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Agents intercepted Alberto Jose Marzan Wednesday, Nov. 27 as he waited for a flight. Marzan was wanted for insurance fraud after filing a false claim against a $25,000 ring.

According to a report filed by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Marzan had told his insurer, Liberty Mutual, the ring had been lost. He also submitted a false appraisal of the jewelry, coming in at nearly $26,000.

In fact, the ring wasn't lost, and the appraisal was allegedly a fake. Liberty representatives filed and investigation, and it turned out Marzan had proposed to his fiancee in April, a month after he claimed the ring was lost.

Believing he was a flight risk, police asked for the assistance of the Minnesota Commerce Fraud Bureau. They, and airport police, apprehended Marzan at MSP.

He faces charges of felony fraud and theft by swindle in Washington County Court. Charges were filed Dec. 2, according to county records.
