Texting… Stolen Goods… Burglary Tools… Drugs… Charges

A woman who appeared to be texting while driving—and then sped up to 75 mph before slowing down to 50 on Interstate 494—was found with stolen credit cards, burglary tools and methamphetamine in her car, according to the criminal complaint.

Kelli Lynn Caron, 29, of Little Canada, faces one felony drug possession charge, along with two misdemeanors stemming from the Dec. 26 traffic stop in Woodbury.

A Woodbury police officer spotted a driver, who appeared to be texting, swerve over the center lane along I-494, speed up to 75 mph and slam on her brakes a short time later near Tamarack Road, the complaint says.

Following a traffic stop, the officer noted the driver, identified as Caron, had a warrant out for her arrest in Rice County.

Caron, who was alone at the time, was taken into custody, and told the officer she needed her purse. In her purse, police found a sunglasses case with five credit cards previously reported stolen, two lock-picking tools and meth residue, according to the complaint.

Caron, who has an earlier drug crime on her record, admitted the items belonged to her and that she knew it was illegal to posses the burglary tools, the complaint says.

She has been charged with fifth-degree drug possession, possession of burglary or theft tools and receiving stolen propery, the latter two being misdemeanors.

If convicted on all counts, she faces up to eight years and three months in prison, along with $17,000 in fines.
