During the traffic stop, officers noticed the smell of burned marijuana coming from the van, according to the criminal complaint. A subsequent search turned up a digital scale with a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine. To baggies with a total of 4.31 grams of cocaine in them were also found on Shumpert, and a plastic bag with marijuana residue was discovered in the center console.

During an interview at the Washington County Jail, Shumpert told authorities he had smoked one and a half blunts of marijuana and admitted the scale was his, according to the complaint. He told police he used the scale to make sure he wasn’t shorted on drug deals.

Kessler

In mid-December, Woodbury police responded to a call about a theft by two men in their 20s at the Walgreens on Donegal Drive.

After getting a description of the suspects and their vehicle from employees, officers were later able to track them down at Cub Foods.

Officers arrested both men, and during a search of the vehicle found a small metal container with methamphetamine inside it, according to the criminal complaint.

Police found that they had stolen $269 worth of items from Cub Foods and $260 in merchandise from Walgreens.

In May 2004 Kessler was convicted of a fifth-degree drug charge in Dakota County.
