Woodbury Man Charged In Alleged Baseball Bat Attack

A dispute over loud parties and trash between neighbors apparently prompted the alleged incident.

A teenager upset about a dispute with a neighbor that “made his mother cry” has been charged with a felony following an alleged baseball bat attack.

Drew Alexander Haggberg, 18, of Woodbury, was recently charged in Washington County District Court with making terroristic threats.

On June 14, Woodbury police were dispatched to a townhome at the 1000 block of Regency Drive—where Haggberg lives with his mother—on a report of a fight.

The victim, a 48-year-old man who lives in an abutting townhome, had expressed concerns about loud parties and trash left outside, according to the criminal complaint. He had spoken with the boyfriend of Haggberg's mother about the issues.

The day of the incident, the older man was pulling out of his driveway when he saw Haggberg approach with a baseball bat while yelling obscenities. Haggberg told the driver he made his mother cry and raised the baseball bat over his head and said, “I’m going to beat you,” according to the complaint.

The driver quickly reversed his vehicle and Haggberg kicked the car and left a dent, according to the complaint. Once the garage door was closed, Haggberg struck the garage door 12-14 times with the bat, according to the complaint.

The other man called police and told authorities Haggberg was leaving the scene on a bicycle.

On June 15, Haggberg turned himself in. He told police that he “snapped” and “blacked out” because he was so angry with his neighbor and couldn’t stop himself from striking the garage door, according to the complaint. He also told police he grabbed the baseball bat in “self-defense.”

If convicted, Haggberg faces not more than five years in prison and a fine not more than $10,000.
