Woodbury Police Blotter: March 17-22

Police recently responded to reports of threats, a lightning strike and an animal attack, among other complaints.

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

A Woodbury man was arrested on March 17 for shoplifting at Rainbow Foods.

Police were called to the 7000 block of Steepleview Road on March 17 after an unknown animal lunged at a woman. The caller said the animal was in a shed on the property, but police were unable to locate it.

Police were called to the 9000 block of Parkside Drive on March 17 after a man was seen near mailboxes. Police located the individual and determined he was handing out raffle tickets for a free carpet shampoo.

A large fight at Throwbacks Grill and Bar broke out at about 11 p.m. on March 17. Police tracked down one suspect who left the scene by car and found that he had blood on his shirt and hands. The man refused to comply with officers’ commands and had to be tasered. He was taken to Woodwinds Hospital and then to the Washington County Jail.

Police were called to the 6000 block of Applewood Court on March 18 after a resident thought his mailbox had been vandalized. It was later determined that the wooden pole had rotted and it just fell over.

A $400 iPhone and its charger were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway at the 1000 block of Pelto Patch on March 18.   

A toolbox and tools valued at $200 total were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in an underground garage at the 7200 block of Guider Drive on March 18.

A woman came to the lobby of the Public Safety Department on March 18 to report that her $3,000 engagement ring went missing while she was tanning at Gold’s Gym.

A Woodbury resident called police on March 18 to report that a dumpster at a home on the 1000 block of Cedarwood Drive was full of garbage and had been sitting in the backyard since October 2010. Police spoke with the homeowner, who said they were unable to move the dumpster during winter but planned to have it gone by April 1.

A Cottage Grove man called police on March 18 after his wallet went missing while he was at Woodbury 10 Theatre. He found that many of his credit cards had been used, mostly in Maplewood and St. Paul.

A $1,100 computer and other items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Bielenberg Sports Center on March 18. The woman told police there was no damage to her vehicle but believed she left it locked.

A flat tire was reported stolen from a garage on the 7800 block of Rimbley Road on March 18. The caller told police he saw a man in his driveway and went outside, only to find the suspect had left.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Silverwood Road on March 19 after two men were harassing people there. The men were reportedly swearing at the caller and her guests, came onto the property and tried to start a fight.

A 1994 Chevy Silverado was reported stolen from the 6900 block of Ashwood Road on March 19. The truck had not been driven for about a month, and management reported that they did not have the vehicle towed.

Three dogs died in a house fire at the 11000 block of James Curve on March 19. The fire apparently started in the kitchen.

Police were called to the Holiday gas station on Radio Drive on March 19 after employees spotted a woman placing tape over her license plate and driving off without paying for gas. Police located the vehicle and found the woman was in possession of a controlled substance, the steering column was broken and there were no keys in the car. The woman was booked at the Washington County Jail.

Police were called to Kowalski’s on March 20 after a man said another man was trying to start a fight with him and had a gun. Police were unable to locate the suspect.

A 1996 Honda Accord was reported stolen from the parking lot at the YMCA on March 21.

A man whose mother owns a home at the 1100 block of Woodhill Drive called police on March 21 to report that the house had been burglarized. The woman has been living at a nursing home and the last time he checked the house was March 14. The exterior service door was broken and the home had been ransacked.

Police were called to the Bielenberg Sports Center on March 21 after a coach’s former student got into an argument and threatened to shoot someone.

Police were called to the 8000 block of Boulder Ridge Road on March 22 on a report of a lightning strike. Woodbury firefighters handled the call and a Patch reporter who went to the home could not see any obvious exterior damage, though there was some insulation and other debris in a trash bin outside the home. One neighbor reported that she was awoken by a loud boom at about 3 a.m.

A Woodbury man called police on March 22 after learning that a $20 bill he was trying to use at SuperAmerica was counterfeit. He was recently traveling in Mexico and had exchanged money several times.
