Woodbury Police: Man Maced, Allegedly Stole $12 from 12-Year-Old

The incident happened at about 1 a.m. June 14 at the Red Roof Inn.

A woman staying at the Red Roof Inn called police during the early-morning hours of June 14, saying her boyfriend had stolen $12 from her 12-year-old daughter and caused a disturbance, according to a police report.

The Minneapolis man at first cooperated with police, but later tried to kick officers and was maced and taken to jail.

Following the theft allegation and initial disturbance, the woman told police she simply wanted her boyfriend to stay away for the evening.

Officers arrived at about 1 a.m. and cleared the scene.

About 10 minutes later he returned and started banging on the door of the motel room. Police were called back.

The man was clearly intoxicated, but initially cooperated with police. He said he wanted to go to detox.

On the way to a squad car, however, he became combative, trying to kick officers, nearly striking one in the head several times.

He was maced and taken into custody and transported to the Washington County Jail.

The woman later called the Public Safety Department to ask about her boyfriend’s belongings and whether she could log a complaint against police and access video of the incident from a squad car. Officers assisted her.
