Is 6th District Congresswoman Michele Bachmann the next Margaret Thatcher?
During her speech to the American Legion's national convention yesterday, the Republican presidential candidate invoked "The Iron Lady" in describing her own domestic and foreign policy goals:
"We find ourselves today in search of another Margaret Thatcher to restore our great country to the thriving nation that I believe we can be again and as the leader for global peace, and through its resolute strength. But the good news is we can take our country back."
You can watch her entire speech via the American Legion's website.
A group of nurses held a mock press conference outside Bachmann's Woodbury office yesterday—complete with an —to protest what they say is her support for corporate America over ordinary citizens. (Woodbury Patch has .)
A political action committee supporting Bachmann put out a 30-second TV spot criticizing Rick Perry's record as governor of Texas. Though Bachmann's campaign technically has nothing to do with the independent PAC, Newsmax says it's the first Republican-on-Republican attack ad of the 2012 race.
Other Bachmann news:
- Florida Republicans say they're adamantly opposed to Bachmann's suggestion of drilling for oil in the Everglades.
- Bachmann says President Obama's "horrific" health care reform law gives the IRS 47 new job duties.
- CNN says Bachmann faces a tough road ahead in Iowa.
Finally, an op-ed in Politico says that contrary to conventional wisdom, Rick Perry's entrance into the GOP race might actually help Bachmann win the nomination.
