Council Preview: Woodbury Drive Expansion Approval on the Docket

More lanes. Roundabouts. Trails. Pedestrian safety. Every foot counts.

Officials have held several meetings and engaged in plenty of discussion about the , which will expand the roadway from two lanes to four from Park Crossing south to . Roundabouts are planned for the Lake and Bailey road intersections.

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday is expected vote on moving ahead with the $13.3 million project. (The city’s portion of the cost is about $3.5 million.)

Specifically, council members will vote on three resolutions:

• approving the preliminary report, authorizing plans and specifications, setting an Aug. 8 public hearing and acquiring easements where necessary;
• approving the reconstruction plans; and
• approving a cooperative construction agreement with Washington County, the lead agency on the project.

The expansion project is meant to meet the 20-year traffic needs of the area, but the planned work has faced challenges because of the narrow right-of-way along that section of County 19.
