East Metro Tea Party Event Planned

A group of area residents have started up a local Tea Party organization.

A group of area residents have founded an east metro Tea Party organization, which will hold its first event Thursday, April 4, at the Machine Shed in Lake Elmo.

The local group will be focused on “entertainment and education,” according to a release about the upcoming event, which kicks off with a social hour at 6 p.m. Thursday. It will be held in the Windmill Room at the restaurant, and the main program is set for 7-9 p.m.

The event will feature presentations on “the gun debate at the Capitol, the exploding debt situation in the U.S. and a short history lesson on the Constitution,” according to the release.

Former 4th District Congressional candidate Tony Hernandez will co-host the event with Minnesota Tea Party leaders Jack Rogers and Jake Duesenberg.

Reps. Kathy Lohmer and Jim Newberger will address the crowd with a legislative update, the release says.

There is no cost for Thursday’s event. “The intent of the Tea Party is to promote the principles of free markets, fiscal responsibility and individualism,” reads the release.

The Machine Shed is located at 8515 Hudson Blvd. in Lake Elmo.
