Original story

Food service at the reconstructed Bielenberg Sports Center could feature a “full-scale restaurant and concession facility.”

That’s according to a Woodbury City Council memo regarding Wednesday’s workshop, during which the city is set to get the latest updates on the project. Plans call for the replacement of the aging dome at the sports center with a new field house, along with an outdoor pleasure rink and two-story lobby linking the new complex and the existing arenas.

City staff has been working with Gartner Restaurant Holdings as the vendor to design and operate the food service for the facility. Company officials will be on hand at the meeting to discuss their preliminary designs and outline “key terms of the agreement necessary to result in successful partnership with the city,” according to the council memo.

As might be expected, contractors have expressed a “significant amount of interest” in the $21.8 million project. The council on Wednesday will also discuss the bidding process. (As it is a workshop meeting, no formal action will be taken.)

Construction is expected to begin in April, following the Woodbury Community Expo.

The workshop is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at City Hall.

Check out the full agenda on the city’s website.

A note on this. The mayor said the food service plans needed more work, so the council turned its attention to the exterior drawings on Wednesday. More to come, but find the first couple of stories here: http://patch.com/A-2h2z http://patch.com/A-2hz8
