School Expansion Bonds, Woodbury Drive Project on the City Council Docket

The City Council on Wednesday is set to move forward on the Woodbury Drive expansion project and potentially approve issuing bonds for a new gym and classroom space at the Math and Science Academy.

A public hearing on the Woodbury Drive expansion project is set for Wednesday night.

Washington County is planning to expand the roadway from two lanes to four from Park Crossing to a quarter mile south of Bailey Road. Roundabouts are planned at the Lake and Bailey roads intersections.

The work also includes concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, and turn lanes where appropriate.

The council has two actions before it: ordering the project and entering a cooperative agreement with the county.

The bulk of the cost of the $14 million project will fall to Washington County; Woodbury will pay about $3.5 million. Check out the funding breakdown.

The —a Woodbury Charter School—is looking to build a new gym and classroom addition. A public hearing on the possible issuance of bonds to pay for the project is on the agenda.

MSA has asked the city to issue charter school lease revenue bonds not to exceed $11.5 million, according to a city memo on the matter.

The proceeds of the bond sales would be used to finance the construction of the 28,000-square-foot gymnasium and classroom addition, in addition to other things.  

The bonds will not constitute a general or moral obligation of the city, according to the council memo.
